Nippon to Asobo
にっぽんと遊ぼう
古都・京都に息づく「もてなし」「しつらい」「ふるまい」の精神を体現し、日本文化の継承と発展という大きな志のもとに、この京都ならではの独自の催しは、平安遷都千二百年を迎えた1994年スタート。他に類のない伝統と革新の供宴として、広く海外からも大きな期待を寄せられ、惜しまれつつ2013年にその最終の宴を迎え幕を閉じました。
Expressing the sprit of Japanese hospitality, aesthetic and customs, Nippon to Asobo was held in temples and shrines in Kyoto, combining traditional Japanese culture and modern art in a bold and spectacular manner. This event began in 1994, the 1,200th anniversary of the Heian Kento. We had 20 times Nippon to Asobo, it came to an end in 2013.

Feeling the air of Kyoto - the city of 1200 years
Kyoto, the city of 1200 years, Ancient Japanese tradition recreated in a city over countless years cultivated its own unique air and charm. Basara in its truest sense; the environment of pleasure through unique aesthetics and uninhibited expression, an exhibition of luxurious pleasure created with modern emotion was held.

Enjoying the changing seasons of Kyoto, shimmering in gold
Kyoto provides a distinct beauty for each of the four seasons. This is never more true than in the fall, when the mountains, the entire city is painted glimmering gold. So that we might savor the soothing taste of autumn, Eikan-do, famous for its offerings as a superb flower viewing location, was for a night in late autumn enveloped in a world of subtle and profound.

奇跡のうつろいを楽しむ ～黄金色に輝く京都
四季折々に美しい風景を見せる京都。山々が、町全体が黄金色色づく秋にはことさらに輝きを増す。うつろいゆく秋の風情を堪能すべく、晩秋の夜、紅葉の名所として名高い永観堂禅林寺は幽玄の世界に包まれた。

The 7th: Nijo Castle

Continuing the Japanese Spirit Journey into the 21st Century
Nijo Castle has stood to witness Japan's history, including the glory and the decline of the Tokugawa Dynasty and the transfer of power back to the Emperor. It is the appropriate location from which to pass on the ancient Japanese spirit, the elegance of Kyoto to the 21st Century. As part of the search for peace in the new century, big name stars from japan and around the world gathered for this event.

和魂継承 ～二十一世紀への旅立ち
徳川家の栄華と衰退、大政奉還と日本の歴史を見守り続けた二条城。古来より受け継がれてきた和の魂、京の雅を、二十一世紀へと継承するにふさわしい舞台である。来世紀の平安を希求し、国内外から多くの人々が集まった。

September 4-5, 2003
Living under the flowers and the moon, playig with the flowers and the moon
Commemorating the 400th anniversary of Kabuki, OKUNI, based on the founder of the art from Izumo-no-Okuni, was written for this event. Centering on the performance by Ukon Ichikawa, it was a work on a grand scale that was a fusion of Kabuki, Japanese drums, and gospel music.

月よ花よ暮らせただ 月よ花よ遊べただ
歌舞伎座誕生四百年を記念し、発祥の当人である出雲の阿国をテーマとする歌舞劇「OKUNI」を書き下ろし。橋本関雪記念館「白沙村荘庭園」京都芸術劇場「春秋座」にて市川右近氏を中心に歌舞伎と和太鼓、ゴスペルが融合した斬新で壮大なスケールの作品が完成した。

Flowers on Earth, Blossoms in the Heavens - A festival of light and sound, bringing the heavens and earth together
The Five-Story Pagoda (National Treasure) at To-ji Temple is the tallest of Japan's ancient pagodas. Incorporating a homage to Kobo-Daishi, the Noh play and piano provided a wonderful stage for bringing east and west together.

地の花 天の華 ～地上と天空が織りなす、音と光の饗宴
日本古塔中最高の高さを誇る五重塔（国宝）で親しまれている 真言宗総本山 東寺（教王護国寺）。ゆかりの深い弘法大師へのオマージュを込め、能とピアノ演奏で、東洋と西洋がひとつになった壮大な舞台が繰り広げられた

Gokuraku Rikyu reflected on the water's surface
Japan and Hong Kong a country and a city both protected by the sea; and Byodoin Temple, which lies beside the waters of the Uji River. Byodoin Temple has been a place where wishes for the happiness of those living in this world were made. Our 16th "Nippon to Asobo" event at Byodoin Temple offered the opportunity to experience these wishes, and history of all those that have stood by its surrounding waters.

Chiyo ni mau ryu
"NISHI HONGWANJI TEMPLE", one of the world cultural heritage in Japan inspired Chinese and Western cultures. Performances of blending different cultures were performed at NISHI HONGWANJI TEMPLE in Japan, the end of the silk Road.

千代に舞う龍
中国や西洋から文化の影響を受けたその建築は世界文化遺産になっている浄土真宗本願寺派 本願寺（西本願寺）。その西本願寺を舞台に、シルクロードの果て、ここ日本で文化の昇華が表現された。

Under the moon, enraptured by the flowers
Leaving thought to antiquity, forgetting time and surrounding oneself to chic enjoyment. The first Nippon to Asobo of the 21st Century was held at Chion-in Temple, over it's the bosom of Higashiyama has watched over the city of Kyoto.

酔花坐月 ～花に酔い月に坐す
いにしえに思いを馳せ、時代を忘れて粋奔放に遊ぶ。二十一世紀の最初の「にっぽんと遊ぼう」は、八百年余りに亘り、東山の懐に抱かれ、京の町を見守りつ付けてきた浄土宗総本山知恩院を舞台に開催された。

Fantasy in Blue
The fantasy evoked by the blueness was like the blazing radiance of the blue Cetaka of Shoren-in Temple, a sacred dream that is a source of beneficence through the ages. The music of the hand drum and transverse flute, the calligraphy of Souun Takeda, and the harmonies of the gospel choir created a dynamic and beautiful experience.

青の幻想
青が呼び起こす幻想は、青蓮院の青不動明王の炎のごとく、遍く世界に功徳をおよぼす聖なる夢。小鼓や横笛の音色と武田双雲の書、そして響きわたるゴスペルがダイナミックで華麗な世界を作り出した。

The Ancient Love Story
The Tale of Genji is a romance that has enthralled for a thousand years. The story has been read by countless people over the centuries, and reflects the lightness and darkness of human nature. One part of this story was presented at Shimogamo Jinja in Tadasunomori, which was established in the Heian Period.

遥かなる大陸
さかのぼること約三百年、隠元禅寺が山城宇治の地に開創し、中国文化を受け継ぐ黄檗宗大本山 「黄檗山萬福寺」。凛とした気が漂う静寂や山内に、力強い和太鼓、二胡の音色が響き渡る、京都と中国の融合世界を生み出した。

Koyoi Meguri A-FU-HI
In Japan, "Aoi (holly hock)" has been said to be a symbol of "En (relationship)" for ages. The Kamigamo Shrine, whose shrine crest is a Futaba Aoi (double leafed Aoi), has watched over numerous "En" s for years. The collaboration of traditional and innovative performance of percussion, guitar, opera, and didgeridoo realized a spectacular stage of timeless and borderless music.

今宵、めぐり葵。
いにしえより「縁」を結ぶ象徴とされてきた「葵」。双葉葵を社紋とし、数々の「縁」を見守ってきた上賀茂神社。幻想的な光の演出の中で、パーカッション、ギター、オペラ、ディジュリドゥによる伝統と革新の音色が、時空を超え、国境を超えてめぐり逢い、奇跡の舞台が表現された。

A dream within a dream The Wabisabi of Kyoto
Hideyoshi Toyotomi, who conquered the maelstrom of war and enjoyed great flamboyance, is said to have grieved over the transitions of fortune in the world. The historic Kodaiji Temple, is the famous resting place of Hideyoshi and his first lady Nene. A feast on a beautiful fleeting night in autumn, all performances are dressed in clothing from the Momoyama Era, creating a world of the traditional and the modern, a mixture of that Western and Japanese.

ゆめのまたゆめ ～今日のわび・さび
戦乱の世を制し、豪華絢爛を好んだ豊臣秀吉もこの世の栄枯盛衰を嘆いたという。秀吉と正室「ねね」ゆかりの東山・高台寺。はかなくも美しい秋の世の宴、演者全員が桃山時代の装束姿で伝統と現代、洋と和の世界を表現。

Eternal Messenger
Taking place at the end of millennium, Nippon to Asobo was held at the Heian Shrine, which was built to commemorate the 1100th anniversary of the Heian Capital founding... The performance provided a fantastical mixture of light and sound, Japanese and Western that in ways resembled a prayer offered for the next 1000 years.

悠久からの使者
千年紀を締めくくる「にっぽんと遊ぼう」は、平安建都千百年を記念して建造された京都のシンボル・平安神宮で開催。新しい千年紀への祈りにも似た、音と光・和と洋の幻想的な饗宴が繰り広げられた。

The enjoyment of beauty and dance
Kyoto's famous entertainment district, Gion, is a place where the Kyoto sensibility flows through the air and the people who make up Gion have an intense sense of aestheticism. The Gion Kobu Kaburenjyo Theater, home to the spring tradition Miyako Odori, saw the creation of a chic and beautiful Kabu Kuogen world that included Kyogen, Kyoto, and Kyomai.

粋舞遊美 ～粋に舞い、美に遊ぶ
今日を代表する花街・祇園には、京の情緒が漂い、そこに生きる人々の美意識が凝縮されている。春の風物詩「都をどり」が催される祇園新地甲部歌舞練場で、狂言・京胡・京舞の織りなす粋で華麗な創作歌舞狂言の世界が実現した。

第12回 相國寺
The 12th: Shokoku-ji Temple

Western Winds, Eastern Lands
Shokoku-ji, a Zen temple associated with Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, was established in medieval times, a period of fusion between cultures of the samurai and the nobility. A fantastical performance was held here with the melody of the shakuhachi and dancing, accompanied by the Portuguese music of Fado, in a beautifully-lit space.

西の風、東の国
武家文化と公家文化の融合の時代に誕生した足利義満ゆかりの禅寺である大本山 相國寺。幻想的な光の演出で織り成された空間で、尺八・舞踏そしてポルトガルのファドによって幻想的な舞台が表現された。

千年ロマンス
時を越えて、今もなお人々を魅了するいにしえのロマンス「源氏物語」。その物語は、時を超えて読み継がれ、人の光と影を映し出す。平安の世よりさらに昔から、生きとし生けるものたちの有様を見続けてきた糺の森・下鴨神社で、華やかに厳かにその一幕が繰り広げられた。

第18回 総本山 仁和寺
The 18th : Ninnaji Temple

Hito wo musubishi Wa no takara
Ninnaji was successfully rebuilt after the Edo priod begun, despite being nearly consumed by fire due to the Onin War. Nippon to Asobo was held on the theme of Japan's Treasure are the people's strong power and wish, was expressed Japanese soul and treasure by the sound of flute, koto and Japanese drum.

Ulrich Roloff (Flute), Stefan Roloff (film), Shin Ichikawa (koto), Momoko Kobayashi, AyuChiba, Natsuko Fukushi, Miyako Seki (Japanese drum).
仁を結びし 和の宝
「応仁の乱」によってそのほとんどを焼失したにも関わらず、江戸時代に入ってから見事に復興をとげ、現在の美しい姿を取り戻した仁和寺。その仁和寺で、「日本の宝＝人の力、人の想い」をテーマに、フルートと箏、そして太鼓の力強い響きと映像と共に、魂として今なお生き続ける日本の心と宝が表現された。
